An athlete aiming for a national record needs to have every stroke analyzed. A coach adjusting training load needs to see change in numbers week by week.
Of course, data is only a tool. I used to treat models as holy scripture; now they are just a compass. But without a compass, we get lost at sea. No sports director can make a long-term strategy without knowing where each athlete sits on the development curve. No scout can uncover a gem if every expectation is based purely on old habits.
Vietnamese swimming is standing at the door of a golden decade if it learns to collect and exploit data. But that starts today: every practice session must be recorded. Every competition must have a technical report. Every athlete must have a unique ID. Building this path is slow and unglamorous, but it is sustainable.
While the world's top sports systems run on artificial intelligence, Vietnam is still figuring out how to store numbers. Yet this gap is not impossible to close. With current sensor costs, a small investment could create an initial data layer. What is missing is determination from federations, clubs, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
If we do not start, reports like "insufficient information" will keep appearing. And then we will continue to watch sports in slow motion, never seeing the whole picture.
